The Medical and Dietetic professions have likely not been treating obesity correctly over the last 50 years. The Surgeon General of the United States, Dr Richard Carmona, framed the obesity crisis quite accurately in the 1990s when he said that it was primarily a socio-demographic problem. Anything doctors or dietitian do on an individual basis will not solve the problem. Obesity is the consequence of a much deeper social malaise that nobody wants to talk about.
What are the Primary Causes of the Obesity Epidemic in America?
The obesity epidemic, when considered from an epidemiological perspective, is but one epidemic--although an important one--among varied epidemics now sweeping through American society, and changing the very fabric of our culture and social norms. What started out for me as an investigation into the causes of obesity, turn out to be an eye-opening discovery.
